The Living Legends of the Caucasus – A Journey to Tusheti National Park, Georgia
лв2,200.00
June 14 – 20, 2025 / 7-Day Tour
Nestled in the northeastern corner of Georgia, Tusheti National Park remains one of the most remote and untouched regions in the country – a hidden gem even for many Georgians. With its impassable forests, ancient fortress towers, and isolated villages, Tusheti is a sanctuary for ancient traditions and cultural heritage. In this rugged, yet awe-inspiring land, the locals have preserved not only the distinct identity of the region but also their unbreakable spirit. With deep pride and respect for their heritage, they continue to protect the customs, beliefs, and way of life passed down by their ancestors, making Tusheti a living connection between the past and the present.
For most of the year, Tusheti is cut off from the world. The only access to this enchanting land is through the Abano Pass – one of the most breathtaking and challenging mountain roads in Europe. Rising almost 3,000 meters above sea level, the pass opens only for a short window of time – from May to early October. During these months, Tusheti comes alive, drawing travelers with its wild beauty, rich traditions, delectable cuisine, and the warm hospitality of its people. But as autumn gives way to winter, the pass closes, and the harsh mountain conditions make the region nearly inaccessible.
In winter, only a few hardy souls remain in these mountains. They are the descendants of ancient traditions, continuing to live in harmony with the rhythm of nature. The cold winds, heavy snowfalls, and the isolation of Tusheti shape a unique way of life, preserving the spirit of a distant past.
Tusheti is not just a destination – it is a living challenge and a magical experience – a museum of Caucasian traditions in motion. It is a place that, once visited, stays in your heart forever.
